Witnesses offer rare insight into Donald Trump’s marriage with Melania

Witnesses offer rare insight into Donald Trump’s marriage with Melania The trial of Donald Trump has offered a rare new perspective on his marriage with Melania, delivered by witnesses from his inner circle. The former President, now the first to have been convicted, had his marriage to the 54-year-old former model put through the ringer after bombshell allegations from former pornstar Stormy Daniels over a one-night stand in 2006. Unlike some of Trump’s children, Melania Trump did not attend the trial held at a Manhattan court. One witness who was close to Trump during his presidency between 2016 and 2020 described their relationship as “just like any other marriage”. In the evenings, when Trump was busy in the Oval Office, he often had his personal secretary, Madeleine Westerhout, call the First Lady. “To let her know that he was running late,” Westerhout testified at Trump’s trial. “Like: ‘Honey, I’m going to be late for dinner.’” Westerhout, 33, who also teared up while recounting

Carlton beat Port Adelaide by 36 points as Patrick Cripps and Sam Walsh lead Blues in statement win An inspirational cameo from captain Patrick Cripps has helped propel Carlton to a precious 36-point away win over Port Adelaide. The Brownlow medallist's burst of two goals in two minutes in the final term was pivotal in the Blues' 16.11 (107) to 10.11 (71) victory at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night. Cripps had been quiet until three-quarter-time, when the Blues led by just seven points. But the inspirational skipper triggered a stunning final-term surge. The Blues booted eight goals to three to jump from eighth to fourth on the ladder. Port remain third — like Carlton, they have eight wins and four losses. Carlton midfielder Sam Walsh produced another stand out display. He collected a game-high 33 disposals, had nine inside-50s and laid 13 tackles. His teammate Nic Newman was also influential with 29 touches, and Cripps, who had just 13 disposals to three-quarter-time, finishe

AU REVOIR, ALIZE CORNET

AU REVOIR, ALIZE CORNET Two decades ago, Alize Cornet was thrust into the limelight, a 15-year-old wildcard thrilling the Parisian faithful with an inspiring first-round victory on her main draw debut.  On Tuesday, the iron woman of the WTA Tour took the court as a wildcard once again, playing her last match on the fabled terre battue of Court Philippe-Chatrier. A full circle moment.  “Roland Garros represents 20 years of my life,” Cornet told the media before the tournament. “It was my first Grand Slam tournament when I was 15, and it will be my 20th this year. This is where I wanted to say farewell to professional tennis. I am glad to have reached that point in my life where I can say goodbye in front of my fans and my family.” To say it has been a wild ride would be an understatement. To say Cornet didn’t live up to the expectations she set for herself as a precocious teen – also a girls’ singles champion at Roland-Garros – would be presumptuous.  On Tuesday, 19 years – and 20 Rola

NBA playoffs: Mavericks rookie Dereck Lively II reportedly 'OK' after taking violent knee to head in Game 3 The incident took place in the second quarter with Dallas leading, 43-33. Lively fell backward toward the court after contesting a missed jump shot by Mike Conley. As he fell to the court, the back of his head slammed into Towns' right knee as Towns jumped in an effort to corral the rebound. Lively's head snapped forward, and he remained down on the court for several moments. He was eventually able to stand up and leave the court with the help of teammates. He was clearly woozy and headed straight for the locker room. The Mavericks listed him as questionable at halftime with a neck sprain before ruling him out in the third quarter. He left the arena after the game to get a scan to determine the severity of his neck sprain, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. He was not in the NBA's concussion protocol as of Sunday night. Celtic pip Rangers in Scottish Cup final to seal double

Celtic pip Rangers in Scottish Cup final to seal double Celtic have beaten Rangers 1-0 in a cagey Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park, sealing victory with a 90th-minute winner from Adam Idah as Brendan Rodgers's side completed the league and cup double. The match was by no means a classic and seemed destined for extra time on Saturday when Idah, who joined the club on loan from Norwich City earlier this year, popped up in the right place at the right time to score and give Celtic a record-extending 42nd Scottish Cup triumph. The victory ensured Rodgers completed the same double that Ange Postecolglou had achieved with Celtic last season before his move to Tottenham, althoygh the Australian also made it a treble with their Scottish League Cup win too. Celtic scored when Paulo Bernardo dribbled into the final third and took a shot from the edge of the box that was palmed away by goalkeeper Jack Butland, but Idah had peeled away from his marker to fire home the rebound.  Powerball: One lucky Australian makes history by taking home entire $150 million jackpot One lucky Australian will be handing in their notice tomorrow after winning the entire $150 million Powerball prize. The South Australian resident has also made history, becoming the country’s biggest ever Lotto winner, seizing the mantle from a Sydney nurse who pocketed $107m in 2019. The numbers needed to win division one were 4, 6, 8, 18, 28, 29, 34 and 11. Nine players — including two in WA — also won big, taking home a whopping $276,036 each. Lotterywest revealed the two Division Two winning tickets were sold at The Good Grocer Karratha IGA and Midland Gate Lottery Kiosk respectively. Thursday’s win comes after seven weeks of no division one winners. The last time the Powerball offered $150 million was January 25. The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said she expected up to half of Australian adults to enter the draw. Before Thursday, six Powerball division one winners had pocketed more than $2

Tottenham vs Newcastle LIVE! Penalties - Friendly result, match stream and latest updates today Ange Postecoglou brought his Tottenham Hotspur side home to face Newcastle United and a crowd of 78,419 roared them on at the MCG on Wednesday night. First-half goals from James Maddison and Alexander Isak saw the match tied 1-1 at full-time before a penalty shootout between those left on the field saw Newcastle win 5-4 with Aussie Garang Kuol among those to convert for the winners. It was a proud homecoming for the former Socceroos, Melbourne Victory and South Melbourne boss who was cheered for his every move while Spurs captain Son Heung-min was also a huge drawcard judging from the volume of the stadium each time he came to the fore. Son told media this week that his players had much improvement to make in year two of Postecoglou’s reign and they needed to drive that improvement themselves. They showed some good signs in the first half as they pressed aggressively and made Newcastle unco

Hellblade 2

Image
Hellblade 2 When Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was released in 2017 it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time. I beat it in one sitting and remember feeling thankful that I had played it in a room dark enough to conceal how much I wept as the credits rolled. As a young woman who had endured abuse and was desperately wrangling with her own mental health and attachment issues, Senua's journey resonated and comforted me in a way no other game ever had. So it might surprise you then, that when I heard Ninja Theory was working on a sequel, I was extremely hesitant. My biggest concern--particularly after Microsoft purchased Ninja Theory--was that the next entry in the Hellblade series would aim to be one of the massive, AAA experiences that are taking over the games industry, complete with a cluttered mini-map, crafting, side quests, and more. That's not to say these features are inherently bad of course--they do have their place--but to me, this felt at odds with wh

Was this Pep Guardiola's least-impressive Man City title win? Ranking the genius coach's Premier League triumphs

Was this Pep Guardiola's least-impressive Man City title win? Ranking the genius coach's Premier League triumphs The Catalan has made history by winning a fourth successive crown to make it six in total, but which was his best? Champions again. And again, and again. Manchester City have a vice-like grip on the Premier League title, and good luck to anyone who tries to take it away from them. The Cityzens are celebrating their 10th English league title, their eighth in the Premier League era and their sixth under Pep Guardiola. And this one is extra special, as they have become the first team in English football history to have won four consecutive crowns. Ever since winning their third title in a row last year, Guardiola had set his eyes on doing something that no team had previously achieved. And as he tends to do, the Catalan has pulled it off. Not that he will be ranking it above any of his previous five title wins in Manchester, however. Two days before beating West Ham t

The First ‘It Ends With Us’ Trailer Has Dropped

Image
The First ‘It Ends With Us’ Trailer Has Dropped The first trailer for the It Ends With Us movie adaptation has dropped and, understandably, #BookTok is losing its mind. If you have spent any amount of time on TikTok in recent years then you might have heard the title It Ends With Us. Written by author, Colleen Hoover, the novel was released in 2016 and has sold more than four million copies since. Now, the novel’s dedicated fan following is being treated to a big screen rendition, with a movie adaptation starring Blake Lively in the lead role dropping imminently. Until now, #BookTok has been left to speculate about what a movie adaptation of It Ends With Us would actually look like, but with the release of the film’s first trailer, that’s all about to change. Fans of the novel were treated to a two minute-long preview of the film (set to a backing track of Taylor Swift’s ‘My Tears Ricochet,’ no less) and it’s everything we’d hoped for and more. So in honour of the trailer finally seei

Bridgerton Recap: A Lost Cause

Image
Bridgerton Recap: A Lost Cause Many thanks to Bridgerton (and specifically Sarah L. Thompson, who wrote this episode) for the full-on rom-com goodness we’re getting here. Nicola Coughlan is nailing the comedy (no surprise for our Derry Girl, but it still must be said) and Luke Newtown is nailing the art of the swoon — and I simply cannot wait until Colin and Pen are nailing each other. Of course, we are well aware from seasons past that the anticipation is part of the fun. Sure, we’re only two episodes deep, but thus far this season is really bringing it in terms of carefully pushing our leads closer and closer to the moment we all know they’re headed for, of letting us see the wheels turning in Colin’s head as he slowly starts to see Penelope in a different way. Newton especially has a tall order to fill at this point in the story. Although TV Colin and Penelope’s storyline is played out much differently from the book version (the TV version has much more urgency, and having Colin m

ELBOW LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Image
ELBOW LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED? Manchester’s newest venue and the cause of much controversy in recent weeks finally opened it’s doors last night for the mighty Elbow. Perhaps fitting that the first official show was a homegrown band from Bury to grace the ginormous stage of an arena which is now officially the largest capacity venue in Europe – 23,500. Although the venue was not full last night (it certainly felt full), with people queuing from midday to secure a prime spot at the barrier. Despite naysayers seemingly wanting this place to fall on it’s arse, the evening went without a hitch (sort of). On arrival the venue were not aware that press would be attending (not quite sure why seeing as the launch of this venue has not been out of the press since it’s originally intended open day last month). An hour wait and we finally had our passes, and during this time had been toured around the perimeter of the site (it is fucking huge…my initial words). Whilst staff were incred

John Fury, dad of Lancashire sports star Tyson Fury, controversially headbuts one of Usyk's team! John Fury, the father of Lancashire sports star Tyson Fury, has ensured the build up to his son’s highly anticipated fight with Oleksandr Usyk continues to make all the headlines with a controversial move.. Tyson's dad John was left with blood pouring down his face after appearing to headbutt a member of Usyk's entourage as the build-up to Saturday's undisputed world heavyweight clash got off to an explosive start in Riyadh. The rival camps had to be separated by security at the hotel where Monday's media activity was being held. It was the 59-year-old father of the 'Gypsy King' who was cut, however, and despite his attempts to wipe the blood away it continued to flow.  John then had to be restrained repeatedly while Usyk's camp chanted "Usyk, Usyk, Usyk". When Morecambe based Tyson saw his dad for the first time since the fracas, having missed it

Students walk out ahead of Jerry Seinfeld speech

Students walk out ahead of Jerry Seinfeld speech Dozens of pro-Palestinian students at a US university commencement ceremony staged a walk-out ahead of a speech by veteran comedian Jerry Seinfeld. Footage on social media showed some robed graduates at Duke University, North Carolina, chanting and waving Palestinian flags in protest as the actor received an honorary degree on Sunday. Seinfeld has been a vocal supporter of Israel since the 7 October Hamas attacks and throughout the course of the war in Gaza. Many of the students at the ceremony stayed to listen to his speech, with several chanting words of support. The incident happened as the 70-year-old was introduced on stage at the university's football stadium by the institution's president, Vincent Price. Loud booing and chants of "Free Palestine" could be heard in videos posted on social media. Some people sat in the surrounding rows could also be seen leaving as the actor began his speech.
