Kids, thanks for making me a mum - now please give me some space this Mother's Day

Kids, thanks for making me a mum - now please give me some space this Mother's Day AUTHOR’S NOTE: This has been written with some tongue-in-cheek humour, but we wanted to also acknowledge those who find Mother’s Day difficult – those who have lost mums, those who have difficult relationships with their mothers or children, those who are trying to become mums and those who cannot become mums. I love Mother’s Day, the pasta necklaces, sticky breakfast in bed and ‘love cards’ (as my daughter calls them). So, my darlings, thank you for making me a mother – now GTF out of my house and let me pretend I’m not one for a little bit. I have a lot of mixed feelings about being a parent: it’s something I absolutely adore and at the same time something that I feel has both added to and taken away from my identity. When I was first on maternity leave I was painfully aware that all I could talk about were my children. I had nothing else filling up my days, wasn’t (really) engaging in the outside...

I love my kids, but all I really want for Mother's Day is to be alone

Image
I love my kids, but all I really want for Mother's Day is to be alone Let me preface this by saying I love my husband and two little girls to the moon and back. Really, I do. But when it comes to celebrating Mother's Day, there's just one thing I want, and it's not a bath bomb, candle, or picture frame. For Mother's Day, I really just want time by myself away from my girls. My girls are 3 and 18 months old, so I'm in the thick of things right now where they still need me for most everything. I want a whole day where no one is climbing all over me, or whining for more water, or asking me to break up a squabble. A day where I don't have to tend to a single bathroom request, make any meals, fold any laundry, or clean up any toys. If I'm being really honest, I want a full night's sleep where I'm not woken up multiple times and a morning where I can sleep past 6:30 a.m. I want to drink a cup of coffee without having to reheat it while I watch the ...

It’s My Favorite Thing I’ve Ever Worn”; Ariana Grande Talks Her 2024 Met Gala Looks—and Performing! This year has been an exciting one for Ariana Grande: Her album, Eternal Sunshine, released in March, and the superstar will also star as Glinda in the film adaptation of Wicked come November. Last night, then, it was only natural that Grande continued her 2024 takeover—by hitting the Met Gala red carpet in glorious style for the first time since 2018 . She was sure to honor the 2024 Met Gala’s sleeping beauties theme. “I felt so connected to this theme, it’s truly so aligned with everything I love aesthetically, and so inspiring to me,” says Grande, who wore a custom Loewe look for the affair. “As soon as I heard this was the theme, I could not wait to get started. I was also so inexplicably excited to work with one of my favorite designers, Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson; I love the way they use and play with uncommon materials, technologies and shapes to tell stories and to push the e...

Titanic and Lord of the Rings actor dies at 79

Titanic and Lord of the Rings actor dies at 79 British actor Bernard Hill, who incarnated a humble style of masculine leadership in three hugely successful Hollywood movies, Titanic and two films in the Lord of the Rings franchise, died on Sunday at the age of 79. His death was announced in a family statement sent by a representative of Lou Coulson Associates, a British talent agency. It did not say where he died or provide a cause. Hill drew praise from critics for his work in serious TV dramas, small-budget films and theatre. But he was best known for playing the ship’s captain in Titanic (1997) and the ruler of a horsemen’s kingdom in the second and third instalments of The Lord of the Rings trilogy: The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003). By appearing in Titanic and The Return of the King, Hill became the first actor to star in more than one film to gross over $1 billion and the only actor to appear in two of the three films to win a record 11 Oscars (the thir...

Arsenal 3-0 Bournemouth

Image
Arsenal 3-0 Bournemouth We continued to heap pressure on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table by beating Bournemouth to move four points clear. After bossing the first half, we finally broke the deadlock on 44 minutes when Bukayo Saka netted his 20th goal of the campaign via the penalty spot after Kai Havertz was felled by Mark Travers, and after the break Leandro Trossard doubled our advantage to put us firmly in control. VAR was kept busy throughout, and would disallow further efforts from Antoine Semenyo and Gabriel, before Declan Rice added a late third to seal a fourth consecutive victory. Another clean sheet saw David Raya claim outright possession of the Golden Glove for the season, but most importantly we remain right in the championship hunt with two games to play. Persistence pays off We had won all seven of our previous home meetings with Bournemouth, and if the opening 25 minutes was anything to go, we were destined to maintain that 100 per cent recor...
